The Abenaki People are the first Vermonters. They are also known as The People of the Dawn. There are four tribes in our state that make up the Abenaki People. They are the Abenaki Nation of Missisquoi, Nulhegan, Elnu and The Koasek.
On Monday October 10th, our state and school districts will be celebrating and honoring Indigenous People’s Day. There are activities planned at all four of our schools designed to educate our students and staff as we honor the importance of the Abenaki People in Vermont's history.
